Two Nights on Bruny Island
Bruny Island is a tiny island off the South Eastern Coast of Tasmania. This is one of my favourite places to go in Tassie and it’s the perfect place to go when you need to escape the grind of the city.
To get onto Bruny Island you will need to drive to Kettering where you will drive your car onto the ferry to Bruny. (Check the timetable here)
DAY ONE
Stop at Hill St Grocer to stock up on snacks and other supplies to take to the island. I suggest getting some food for dinner and some breakfast food for the next day, some sparkling wine to have in the spa bath and some grazing board bits and bobs.
Before you hop on the ferry you can get your caffeine fix on the way at Steamhouse Cafe in Kettering.
Once you’re off the ferry Bruny Island Cheese Co could be your first stop. Order the tasting board to go with the beer tasting board. Definitely try the whey stout and maybe get some take away things to add to your grazing board that night.
Walk up the top of The Bruny Island Neck Lookout and enjoy the beautiful view of Bruny.
Get Shucked Oysters for FRESH and cheap oysters with sparkling wine. Sit outside with a view of the beach where the oysters came from.
Stop at Bruny Island Wine to do a wine tasting. Grab a bottle to go and enjoy on the beach or in front of the fire that evening.
If you have a 4WD you could drive on to the beach at Cloudy bay.
Stay at this gorgeous little cabin. We loved our little stay here at this off the grid tiny house. It’s secluded, picturesque and so cosy with a fire place to warm it all up and a hidden bath outside. It was beautiful in Winter but I’m sure it would be just as wonderful in all the other seasons too .
DAY TWO
Wake up and make a yummy breakfast on the fire outside or go to Penguin And Pardalote Cafe in Adventure Bay
Organise a Pennicott Cruise (tour) from Adventure Bay. We really enjoyed the 3 hour cruise, exploring the coastline of Bruny Island.
You’ll probably need some food after that adventure so why not try Hotel Bruny in Alonnah for some delicious pub fare.
Drive back onto the ferry in the afternoon. If you’re driving back to Hobart that night, you could close off the food frenzy with a small and intimate meal at one of my all time fav wine bars and dinner spots- Sonny on Elizabeth St.
I hope you enjoy this little pocket of Tassie that has a special place in my heart (and my belly) xx
